Pasture raised beef is king, hands down.  At BlueLoon Farm steers are raised on a mix of grasses on three different pastures with continual rotation to maintain good pasture quality and animal health.  In the winter months when the pasture grasses are dormant, we supplement with hay, grown, cut, and bailed here on the farm.  Currently we use Jersey steers, from a neighboring organic dairy farm. While not a traditional meat breed, we choose to give these boys a wonderful home for their short life in favor of being culled  or sold at a livestock auction. The "boys" are docile and friendly, eager to have their heads scratched. The exceptional quality of the meat from a pasture raised Jersey steer is something any omnivore must experience.
